After 16 matches (4 rounds x 4 matches) Hemel Hempstead have won “The Thames Valley Over 65’s Winter league” – Congratulations to all that have been involved.
Going into the final round of matches Hemel were top of the league by just a single point, So it was important to get off to a good start.... Oops, first up a local derby with Watford and it all went pear shaped. Whether we were trying too hard to force the win, who knows, but two sloppy goals due to us simply switching off enabled Watford to come out on top 1-2, the highlight a blockbuster goal by Bernie.
So all to do and fortunately we were able to shake off the early disappointment by beating Cove 2-0 in a much more disciplined display thanks to 2 goals from Woody.
Next up Bicester, always a tight affair and this was no different ending up 0-0 and so to the final match against the team 2nd in the league at the start of the day and another well disciplined display as we won 2-0 with a goal each for Bernie and Woody (not sure how much Bernie knew about his goal having moments before been taken out from behind with the Woodley player landing on Bernie's head as he went down). Well done all and hope you are feeling OK Bernie!
