Into September we go then! A flying start to the 2024/25 campaign for The Tudors, but now we turn our attention to the visit of The Wings this Monday evening. Let's find out a little bit more about tomorrow evening's opponents...
Founded: 1963
Nickname: The Wings Stadium: Park View Road Stadium Capacity: 4,500 (1,000 seating) Manager: Rod Stringer
Monday night football at The Focus Community Arena, is here! Welling United come to The Focus, on the back of a 1-3 defeat to Chesham Saturday afternoon, and have had an overall mixed start to their campaign. A well established National League South side, this will be the sixteenth time The Tudors matchup against the Kent based side, in all competitions. Looking at this in further detail, the two sides both have five wins over each other, with the most noticeable Welling victory being our most recent meeting back in January earlier this year, where George Williams' late consolation goal was not enough in a narrow 1-2 defeat.

Founded in 1963, Welling United began as a youth team playing in the Eltham and District
Sunday League until 1971. They then played in the Metropolitan-London League and
London Spartan League Reserve Division One before gaining their senior status in 1976.
Just a year later, the Wings moved to Park View Road before a 3 year tenure in the Athenian
League. In 1981, Welling progressed to the Southern Football League Southern Division and
were promoted to the Football Conference after gaining promotion in the 1985-86 season.
The Wings lasted 14 seasons at this level, before their relegation was confirmed in 2000.
They were then able to win a place in the newly formed Conference South in 2003, before
gaining promotion to the top tier of non league football in the 2012/13 season. However, the
Wings lasted 3 seasons at the level as they were relegated to the National League South.
They have remained at the level ever since and after a 17th place finish last season, Welling
will look to improve upon this as a highly competitive campaign awaits.
A face Tudor fans may be familiar with is former striker, Reece Grant. Reece joined Hemel Hempstead during the 2022/23 season, having joined from Chelmsford City.
In just under a year, the 29 year old striker picked up four goals in 19 appearances
before announcing his departure to the Wings in February.
This sets out to be an exciting fixture, as The Wings look to take flight & find some league form, whilst The Tudors look to bring their momentum from August, into September, We hope to see as many of you as we can down at The Focus tomorrow evening!
