Opposition Focus | Farnborough FC

Searching for our first victory on our travels in 2025, The Tudors are tasked with a trip to Hampshire tomorrow afternoon to take on Spencer Day's Farnborough. If our last outing with The Boro is anything to go by, back in September, we should be in for a thriller at The Saunders Transport Community Stadium! Anyways, let's have a closer look into our opponents...

Founded: 2007 Nickname: The Boro

Stadium: Saunders Transport Community Stadium Stadium Capacity: 6,500 Manager: Spencer Day

History of The Boro

Founded in 2007, as a rebirth of Farnborough Town FC, who were liquidated, Farnborough FC started life in the Southern League Division One South and West. Their first season proved to be a huge success for ‘Boro as they won the league, securing promotion into the Southern League Premier Division. The season after, Farnborough almost secured back-to-back promotions, losing in the playoff final to Gloucester City. However, ‘Boro were able to right the wrongs in the 2009/10 season, winning the Southern League and securing promotion to the Blue Square Premier. They spent four years before their relegation was confirmed in the 2014/15 campaign to the Isthmian Premier League. They were relegated back to the Southern League in the 2015/16 season. They were quick to bounce back after the Playoff Final victory at home to Barton Rovers. After seasons of consolidation in the 3rd tier of Non-League, Farnborough earned their promotion to the National League South, following another Playoff victory in the 2021/22 season. Since then, ‘Boro have become an established National League South side.

The Gaffer - Spencer Day

Spencer Day has been a familiar face to Farnborough Football Club. Having entered the management role in November 2011, Day has dealt with both relegations and promotions with ‘Boro, and has instilled stability and success to the club. Having guided the team to promotions in both the 2016/17 season and 2021/22 season, Day is knowledgeable when it comes to connecting with his players, with his extensive knowledge of the opposition, alongside his tactical knowhow. His eighth placed finish last season was a perfect demonstration of his management quality, and he will look to replicate this achievement in the 2024/25 campaign.

The Skipper - Ollie Robinson

In his third season with the Hampshire based side, captain Ollie Robinson became skipper of The Boro following the departure of Josh Casey who joined Hanworth Villa, back in December last year. The 30-year old plays in the heart of the Farnborough defensive line, and will be tasked with trying to stop a Tudor side who put four past Slough Town, last weekend.

Currently at Farnborough, Robinson has also played for Molesey, Walton Casuals, and Met Police where the experienced centre-back joined Farnborough from.

One To Watch - Richard Chin

A Boro player to keep an eye out for tomorrow afternoon, is forward, Richard Chin. In the reverse fixture at The Focus Community Arena near the beginning of the season, Chin scored two in an exciting six goal encounter and has six for the season so far. Suiting Spencer Day's style of football, both Chin & forward man, Ricky Holmes, provide Farnborough with a dangerous attacking outlet.

Despite only being 22, the versatile midfielder has also played for the likes of Charlton Athletic, Dartford and fellow National League South side, Bath City.

Last Time Out - Hemel Hempstead Town 3-3 Farnborough FC

If our last outing with tomorrow's hosts is anything to go by, spectators & supporters should be in for a treat!

On a warm autumn afternoon in in Hertfordshire, the weather wasn't the only thing fans were treated to. The visitors opened the scoring early on, through Millar Matthews-Lewis before a clever finish from Teddy Howe, levelled the scoreline just 10 minutes later. The Tudors then took a short lasting lead on the 25th minute through a close-range finish from Bayley Brown before a Richard Chin strike straight from kick-off made it 2-2. The first half goals didn't stop there, as Jordan Esprit gave Hemel the lead just moments before the interval. Shortly after the break, Farnborough equalised once more, as Richard Chin claimed his second of the afternoon resulting in the game finishing in a 3-3 draw.
