Opposition Focus | Chesham United

Let's kick start 2025 on the road then shall we! Tomorrow afternoon, we make the short trip along the A1 to The Meadow, taking on Chesham United. A fixture that promises fireworks, let's take a closer look into what to expect from the tie, and a little bit more about The Generals.

Founded: 1917

Nickname: The Generals

Stadium: The Meadow

Stadium Capacity: 5,000

Manager: James Duncan & Michael Murray

History of The Generals

Formed in 1917, the club was created as a merger of both Chesham Generals & Chesham Town. Placed into the Corinthian League in 1947/48, the club picked up six wins in twenty-six games, aiming to find their feet in the division. Just shy of forty years later, The Generals would be crowned champions of the Isthmian League Division 2 North, and would then go on to win Division 1, four years later. Incredibly, in just a seven year spell, Chesham would be champions of the second, first, and Isthmian League. Since then, the side have been climbing through the leagues, going from strength to strength. In 2018/19, due to reorganisation of leagues, the Buckinghamshire based side were placed into the Premier Division South, and going onto just missing out on promotion to the National league South after losing to Bracknell in the play-offs in 2022/23. However, just a season later, The Generals would find themselves champions, and now competing in the Vanarama National League South!

The Gaffers - James Duncan & Michael Murray

Both appointed for the Generals job in 2018, James Duncan & Michael Murray share dugout responsibilities which has ultimately brought the club success in recent years. When appointed six years ago, the pair guided Chesham to tenth position, having just one win before their incoming. Both James & Michael have also managed Potters Bar Town, leading the local Hertfordshire side to promotion in 2017/18.

One To Watch - Nathan Minhas

A forward who has the ability to both score and provide goals, is Nathan Minhas. A proven goalscorer, Minhas has played at the likes of fellow National League South side, Slough Town, where he joined the Generals from at the start of 2024/25. As well as a spell with The Rebels, the striker has a list of clubs that he's played for on his CV. Hampton & Richmond, Billericay Town, Bracknell & Maidenhead United just some of these. Since the start of this season, Minhas has featured 20 times for Chesham, scoring eight and assisting three.

Played For Both - Ricardo German

From one goalscorer to another, a bagsman that has played for both sides is Ricardo German. The striker joined the Tudors at the start of 24/25 from tomorrow afternoon's hosts, after racking up an unbelievable tally in 2023/24 where he scored 33 goals. Before his spell at Chesham, Ricardo had a short spell at Hemel, on loan from Crawley Town. Furthermore, appearances for Dulwich Hamlet, Hendon, Chesterfield & Alfreton also stand out. With seven goals this league campaign so far, Ricardo will sure be looking to add to his tally against his former club tomorrow afternoon.
