Here we go then, another home matchday approaches! The Tudors await the visit of The Romans this coming Saturday, in what will be our twenty-fifth matchup against the Somerset side. Let's find out a little bit more about tomorrow's opponents...
Founded: 1889 Nickname: The Romans Stadium: Twerton Park Stadium Capacity: 8,840 Manager: Jerry Gill
Coming into this tie, both sides secured victories last bank holiday Monday, with Bath beating Alan Julian's Hampton & Richmond 1-0 at Twerton Park, whilst The Tudors also grabbed themselves three points away at Enfield Town, thanks to a late winner from Trae Cook-Appiah at The Dave Bryant.
Despite their impressive campaign in the 2023/24 season, and narrowly missing out on promotion, Bath have had a mixed start to 2024/25. The Romans have picked up a possible seven points from fifteen, with two wins, two losses and a draw on the board so far. With The Tudors undefeated in their opening five games, this fixture shapes up to be an exciting watch, as Bath look to build, whilst Hemel look to continue their form!
Originally founded as Bath AFC in 1889, the club changed it's name to Bath City in 1905 in which The Romans also joined a multi-county division for the first time in their history in 1908, where they competed in the Western League before joining the Southern League in 1921. A long standing, well established side, Bath have played their home fixtures at Twerton Park since 1932 after a 13 year tenure at Lambridge.
Just a year after moving to Twerton Park, Bath were highly successful in the Southern League, finishing second in the division. The club missed out by election to the Football League in 1935, 1978 and 1985, and reached their lowest point when they were relegated to the seventh tier in 2004. They have competed in the National League South since 2012 and have competed under Jerry Gill’s management since 2017. Since his appointment, Bath have become an established National League South side and last season, lost in a playoff eliminator to the eventual playoff winners Braintree Town.

Jerry Gill is a well-known figure to Bath City fans, having represented the Romans during his
playing career, sporting the black and white shirt between 1990 and 1996. Gill’s first
managerial appointment came at Weymouth, lasting just 44 days at the club, who were in
financial difficulty. After jobs as an academy coach for Bristol Rovers, a scout for Norwich
City and Head Coach of Wolves U18s, Gill was appointed manager of Bath City, where he
looks to help the Romans continue to push up the National League South table.
In our most recent meeting, The Romans ran out 2-0 winners at Twerton Park back in March earlier this year with goals from Jordan Dyer & Scott Wilson rounding off a tricky evening in Somerset. Overall, the two sides have faced each other 24 times with Bath being victorious in half of these meetings, and The Tudors taking 6 wins since 2004.
We look forward to returning to home turf tomorrow afternoon. See you at The Focus, Tudors!
