Match report by Allan Mitchell
Weston Super-Mare 1 Hemel Hempstead Town 1
Vanarama National League South – 1st February 2025
The Tudors came away with a hard earnt but deserved point from the West Country and it was a fair reflection of the game.
Hemel were on top for the first half, creating chances whilst restricting the Seagulls to only one or two minor opportunities. There was a fear that the home side would come out in the second period and make the The Tudors pay for not taking those chances but the second half started the way the first finished and Kai Omoko-Brosnan, who was having an excellent game broke the deadlock with a fine finish on 52 minutes.

George Williams was also having a good game down the right in the first half as the Tudors played some lovely football down both flanks and he had a couple of chances to open the scoring, only some desperate defending prevented him from finding the back of the net.
The sides went in at the break all square and the Tudor Army were more than happy with the performance in the first period.
Hemel’s started the second half as they ended the first and they took the lead after a corner was only half cleared, the ball was fed back into the back post where Brosnan was waiting in space, he drilled his shot through a crowd of players where it took a slight deflection before crashing in off the post.
The goal seemed to wake the Seagulls from their slumbers and the remaining 30 minutes saw them press forward. Hemel had to thank Craig king just on the hour mark when Oliver Bray drove in a shot that the Hemel goalminder saved at full stretch. This was the home sides first attempt on target and shortly after this they equalised. Hemel made a bit of a mess of a short goal kick and they were made to pay when Ollie Chamberlin pounced and drove into the box, he was tripped as he looked to take it past a defender and the referee pointed to the spot with few complaints from The Tudors.

Luke Coulson stepped up and sent King the wrong way to level the scores. This saw a period of pressure from Weston and they forced a number of corners that Hemel defended well but in the 73rd minute everyone in the ground through they were going to go in front when Sam Avery arrived and met one of those with his head, it looked as though it was heading into the top corner but Craig King responded with a world class save, tipping the ball one handed over the bar.
That was about it as far as chances went and Hemel held on for a very decent point against a side who are very much in the Play Off race.
Manager Lee Allinson was delighted with the point but was slightly disappointed with the way his side went back into their shell after opening the scoring. There were a couple of slight injury worries at the end of the game with Ben Tompkins having to be replaced, Olly Lynch and Kyle Ajayi also looked to be limping after putting their bodies on the line to get over the line.
With Borehamwood next up, with only a days rest Allinson will be hoping they recover enough to face up to another of the Play Off contenders at the Focus Arena on Monday evening.
