Hemel Hempstead Town 4 Slough Town 1
Vanarama National League South – 11/01/25
Match Report by Allan Mitchell
Hemel made it a league double over Slough Town with an emphatic victory at the Focus Arena.
Slough actually made the better start to the game pushing the home side back without really testing Craig King who was making a welcome return after injury.
It was somewhat against the run of play when The Tudors opened the scoring. A long ball was sent down the middle and Slough centre half and player manager Scott Davies looked to have it covered but he completely misjudged his attempted header back and Oliver Lynch was on it in a flash, he faced up to keeper Horlock and tucked the ball superbly past him for a debut goal on 10 minutes.
The remainder of the first half became something of a stalemate with both sides cancelling each other out and they went in at the break with the Tudors still leading by a goal to nil.
Oliver Lynch who has signed from Luton Town on loan until the end of the season, was having an excellent game and he could have doubled the advantage in the 50th minute when he was put in by Barzey but he drilled his shot just wide of the post.
Slough then started to ramp up a bit of pressure and they were rewarded on the hour mark when Francis Amartey headed home from close range after an excellent move down Hemel’s right.
The Rebel’s looked to be in the ascendancy now as Hemel struggled to get out of their own half but they did look dangerous on the counter and there was a warning for Slough when George Williams found some space down the right, he raced into the box before curling a shot in that just cleared the far post.
The Visitors were made to pay minutes later when Williams got clear again down the right, this time he picked out an unmarked Joe White who made no mistake, slamming the ball home from close range for his first goal for the club, restoring the Tudors advantage on 70 minutes.
Hemel really stepped it up in the remaining minutes and in the 80th minute, Williams repeated his effort for the second goal, he got to the byline before driving an excellent pass across the six yard box to Brandon Barzey who hit it first time and it ended up in the back of the net to restore the Tudors advantage. There was some debate as to whether Oliver Lynch got the final touch but it was awarded to Barzey by his manager after the game. We’ll leave the players to sort that one out!
The final piece of action came in injury time. With Slough pushing up they were caught short at the back and sub Kai Brosnan broke clear out on the left, he cut inside before laying an inch perfect pass into the feet of Alfie Cerulli who moved into the box, outpacing the defender before smashing the ball into the far corner to complete the scoring.
Manager Lee Allinson said after the game that he was delighted with the result but he thinks that his side can play a lot better and it will take time for the new signings to gel. Its all very much a work in progress but he is very happy with the way his team is adapting to his ideas and style of play.
