Hemel Hempstead Town 1-1 Taunton Town Vanarama National League South
26/11/2022
Match report by Allan Mitchell
The points were shared in a scrappy affair between two sides who are floating around the middle of the table but would both have welcomed three points to push themselves away from the lower reaches.
Taunton took the lead with their first chance of the game on 16 minutes when Hemel conceded an unnecessary corner. The ball was fizzed across the face of the goal, missing everyone and it arrived at the back post where it was knocked back in to Nick grimes who poked it home from close range.
Neither side really threatened after this until just after the half hour mark when a superb ball out from the back from Josh Lelan found Jernade Meade in space out on the left, he raced to the byline before firing it across the six yard box to an unmarked Josh Castiglione who made no mistake to level the scores.
Hemel had a great chance to go in front just before the interval when a corner was dropped by the Taunton keeper, it fell to Godfrey Poku who hit it first time but it flew over the bar.
Stand Hemel keeper David Saunders made a couple of good saves in the second period as the Peacocks looked to grab a second goal but the best chance of the half came Hemel’s way when Ogo Obi raced past the onrushing Peacocks keeper Jack Bycroft and curled a shot in towards the vacant net but a Taunton defender had read the danger and somehow managed to get back and head it away for a corner from under the bar.
Both sides created little as the clock ticked down and the game fizzled out somewhat with the honours even.
